TARGET TREVALLY

Another early start, on the water at 0530. We were greeted by glassy conditions. Perfect weather for a trip up the island so that was the plan. But before going to far, we dropped a few jigs near the pier but the Mackerel were more dispersed than yesterday, so we moved on. It had been a while since mum had been fishing with us so we showed her a spot that holds Bonito. With the flat conditions we could drift while seeing the bottom structure and eventually the schools of fish. It was awesome. On our way to some reefs up the island, we came across a small school of Mac Tuna where we landed the smallest Mac of the school. Up the island we caught and released a few Mackerel and lost some big fish that we didn't get to identify. We were targeting big Golden Trevally, maybe it was them. Action was slower than expected so we headed closer to home and anchored up. We were onto a school of Mackerel immediately, but we were still chasing Trevally. A big Golden flashed at our lure close to the surface but unfortunately didn't hookup. Dad managed to get a big follow on his popper from a shark. It's one of his favourite lures so he was ripping it back to the boat with a fin following. A few more Mackies landed and then were headed to Moon Point where we came across birds working. After landing some Bonito, and with the day coming to an end, we headed for home.
