WHALE WATCHING

Having broken my foot on a school sporting trip to the Sunshine Coast, Dr Dad prescribed a day off school to be spent on the water. My moon boot made things interesting as I was still getting used to it, so we didn't plan much fishing, just a day exploring the top of Fraser Island. Half way to Rooneys Point we spotted a couple of big whales putting on a show. We cruised slowly towards them, cutting the motor ~200m away and enjoyed the show. Shortly after, the whales headed in our direction and did a few laps of the boat, breaching and generally entertaining us. We are used to interacting with crocodiles while fishing, but much prefer having the whales around.
We saw at least 20 whales during the day, they were everywhere we went. At one stage, we had 2 whales under the boat which made for an interesting encounter that looked awesome on the structure scan. In terms of fishing, we caught a few small reefies but were generally too distracted by our big friends.
